With shrinking budgets and increased workloads, the federal government needs the private sector to help cut operating costs. Industry innovations can reduce the budget by lowering the government’s contractual total cost of ownership. One way to achieve this is through broad business coalitions. I am a big supporter of bringing together businesses, universities, non-profits, and local communities to service government projects. Having the best and brightest of these organizations work together ensures the best total solution for government at the lowest cost. A good team presenting a good business case offers the best option for the government, especially in austere times.
