As the biggest shopping day of the year approaches, it's important to note the Federal Government is also "shopping."

I was recently with a government group tasked with finding and adapting commercial technology to help solve a government problem--let's call the problem "knowledge management." The government had a "real" problem, but didn't know how to solve it. They needed a solution, but didn't know if one existed. That's why I was there...I was asked to attend the meeting to make them aware of current commercial solutions.

My point is this: The Federal Government is shopping, but doesn't always know what to buy. It thinks it knows what it wants, but its up to industry to help the government find what it wants. Helping solve problems is a shared responsibility between public and private enterprise--it's up to all of us to help solve problems and create efficiencies.
